8 Signs that Indicate You Need a New Front Door in Park Ridge

Published , By Brian Olson

The front door of your home is the first thing that creates an impression on a visitor. Apart from being an eye-catcher, it’s also one of the most critical parts of your home’s security.

Here are some of the tell-tale signs that your Park Ridge home needs a new front or entry door:

1. Your Door is Rusted and Worn

Rust is a sign of moisture seepage, and if neglected, can lead to more problems. Additionally, if your door is showing signs of wear-and-tear, it’s a visible sign that the structural integrity has been compromised and that your door needs to be replaced.

2. You Experience Drafts in Your Home

A major function of your front door is to keep the elements of nature from entering the house. If you notice that there is a considerable temperature difference from room to room, check the entry door to see if it has given way to drafts. Those drafts can cost you heavily on your energy bills, so replacing the door will help you save money in the long run.

3. The Door is Difficult to Operate

If you notice that there are gaps between the frame and the door when it is closed, or if the door begins to stick due to friction, it is time to think about replacing your front door. Opening and closing your front door shouldn’t be a struggle. It is also a sign that the door has begun to warp and is unable to function smoothly.

4. You Hear Excessive Noise from Outside

Modern day technology has made way for doors to be built with impact resistant glass and coatings of different materials. Apart from security and energy efficiency, these doors also assist in storm protection and noise reduction. So, if your home has a front door that’s over 8-10 years old, now is a good time to consider replacing it.

5. Your Home’s Interior Looks Faded from the Sun

Older glass inserts were not designed to block ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. So, if you are noticing that your living room drapes, rugs, carpet or other valuables are faded from the sun, it might be time to consider a door replacement. Replacement doors with UV-blocking technology are also well insulated, which helps with energy efficiency.

6. Glass Inserts in the Door are Foggy

Moisture inside the glass of a front door is a sign that the seals on the windows are worn out and are unable to hold the air outside. If neglected, this could lead to a major problem, especially if the door is made of wood.

7. You are Experiencing Mildew or Mold

Mold and mildew in the house thrive on humidity. If you notice mold growth or mildew, it is a sure indicator that humidity and moisture are entering the house. One of the reasons for this could be leaky doors. If left unattended, humidity entering the house could lead to mold growth causing foul smell, difficulty breathing and health problems.

8. You Have High Energy Bills

Today’s doors are manufactured with a combination of new materials that are designed to make them much more energy efficient. The glass inserts are more advanced, enabling gas to be inserted between panes of glass for better insulation. So, if your energy bills are particularly high, upgrading to a new door will likely be a pocket-friendly option in the long run.
